Ever lived in or around Philly?

I've got a lot going on offline right now, so not much time to come here to update. I've been eating pretty crappy since about last Friday (as in, 10 days ago). Once I get started on that path, the old habits just kick right back in. Way too easy to go on auto-pilot with not so great eating.

One thing I having going on right now is investigating a possible move to Philly (for a job in Delaware, right outside of Philly). Has anyone out there lived in Philly? If so, and you feel like chatting about neighborhoods and such, could you e-mail me? Or, does anyone have any suggestions on books or magazines I could take a look at to start scouting out the area? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thankey.

I lived in Center City Philadelphia in my 20's. It was great. The taxes are high though. If you do the city check out Old City, Art Museum, Rittenhouse Square. Stay away from South street. Now I live in Delaware. Wilmington, Delaware Trolley Square area is great. Cool old apartments and there is the Rockford Park area with the big houses. Lots of walkers and joggers in that park. Ardmore, PA is quaint. Main line is expensive. If you lived in Philly I would do the train into DE. Stay away from Chester. Don't even go there. Anywhere on the blue route (I-495) is going to be a traffic headace.

I've only visited Philly, and, well... no disrespect to anyone, I'm not sure if I would live there. Of course visiting isn't the same as living there.

But I did adore Delaware. I stayed in Rehoboth Beach and just loved it.

I wish you luck on your search!

Not sure what your budget is, but North and South Philly are kind of like Williamsburg/LES in NYC -- funky neighborhoods on the way up.

Also, believe it or not, the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce in Delaware will also tend to tell you a lot about Philly.

And you know that's where Jennifer Weiner lives, right?
